Het verhaal was misschien gruwelijk, maar het is een fantastisch goed geschreven verhaal.

Bovendien zat er meer achter. Het werpt vragen op waarover je kan discussiëren. Ethische kwesties.

En... het is niets vergeleken met wat de jeugd nu leest.

Ja schrijven kan William Golding wel. Rites of passage vond ik prachtig.

Natuurlijk kun je uitgebreid over de ethische kwesties discussiëren, daar is het dacht ik ook voor geschreven,

om te laten zien dat er in elk mens ook een zwarte kant zit.

Maar Lord of the Flies is toch geen jeugdboek? Ik dacht voor volwassenen.

Het is wel een van de boeken die je kunt kiezen voor je Engelse literatuurlijst.

Is het zo erg als je zegt Marjo? Wat voor vreselijks leest de jeugd nu dan? vertel, vertel

Nou, lees jij de verslagen niet van al die trilogieën??

Die van de labyrintrenner is nogal akelig, en dat boek is niet bedoeld om het over ethische kwesties te gaan hebben.

'Lord of the flies' is erg populair op de middelbare school, bij al die jongeren die voor hun lijst lezen. Of het oorspronkelijk als boek voor volwassenen bedoeld is weet ik niet, maar het staat vanaf dat ik het ken al op de plek waar jongeren hun boeken zoeken.

Jazeker lees ik die verslagen wel (vandaag nog), maar daar kan ik niet goed over oordelen omdat ik dat genre boeken nooit lees.

Ik ken ze dus niet goed genoeg om te denken oh dat is heel verschrikkelijk. Ik heb altijd een soort Star Track of zoiets in m'n

hoofd dan. Met rare wezentjes, goede en slechte 'tovenaars' en vreemde robotachtige vechters of zoiets. Dat staat zo ver

buiten de werkelijkheid dat ik me daar weinig bij kan voorstellen. Ik weet dus ook niet of ze keihard zijn. Ik zie ze meer als een

soort sprookjes die zich alleen niet op onze wereld afspelen maar in een niet bestaande fantasiewereld.

Bij Lord of the Flies is nog voor te stellen dat het zou kunnen gebeuren als kinderen dat overkwam. Of ze inderdaad zo ver

gaan? Geen idee... Ik weet ook niet zeker of het voor volwassenen is bedoeld, dat ga ik eens even opzoeken.

Heer der vliegen (Engels: Lord of the Flies) is een roman geschreven door William Golding in 1954.

Hij schreef het naar aanleiding van de gruwelijkheden die hij had meegemaakt tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog.

"The five years Golding spent in the navy (from 1940 to 1945) made an enormous impact, exposing him to the incredible cruelty and

barbarity of which humankind is capable. Writing about his wartime experiences later, he asserted that "man produces evil, as a bee

produces honey." Long before, while in college, he had lost faith in the rationalism of his father with its attendant belief in the

perfectibility of humankind. While Golding's body of fiction utilizes a variety of storytelling techniques, the content frequently comes

back to the problem of evil, the conflict between reason's civilizing influence, and mankind's innate desire for domination.

In Lord of the Flies, which was published in 1954, Golding combined that perception of humanity with his years of experience with

schoolboys. Although not the first novel he wrote, Lord of the Flies was the first to be published after having been rejected by 21

publishers. An examination of the duality of savagery and civilization in humanity, Golding uses a pristine tropical island as a protected

environment in which a group of marooned British schoolboys act out their worst impulses. The boys loyal to the ways of civilization

face persecution by the boys indulging in their innate aggression. As such, the novel illustrates the failure of the rationalism espoused

by Golding's father."

Ik zie nu dat er twee cobra-lijsten zijn. De eerste link, die Elvira gaf was de lijst na de eerste stemronde. Later is er nog een lijst gekomen, na twee stemrondes. Niet dat die veel afwijkt.
